Why do successful people like models commit suicide? Why suicide is more common among celebrities, corporate elite, and comprador elite? Successful people sometimes find it difficult to cope with stressful situations that come along with success. Success and failure can both lead to depression when people are not able to define success and failure.
Different types of Suicide include Altruistic Suicide, Egoistic Suicide, Anomic Suicide, Fatalistic Suicide, and Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide.
Jiah Khan (born Nafisa Rizvi Khan, 20 February 1988 – 3 June 2013) was an America born British Indian actress, model and singer who appeared in Bollywood films. On 4 June 2013, she was found dead in her apartment in her residence in Mumbai after hanging herself. The note is reported to indicate that she had planned to end her life. A transcript was released by Khan's family which included mention to a recent abortion.
Cibele Dorsa (October 14, 1974 – March 26, 2011) was a Brazilian actress, model and writer. Dorsa died on March 26, 2011, after having fallen from a window on the seventh floor of her apartment building in Morumbi, Sao Paulo. The suicide was confirmed by messages posted in her Twitter and a suicide letter addressed to her children.
Jeniffer Corneau Viturino (13 May 1993 – 8 April 2011) was a Brazilian fashion model who died in 2011 at the age of 17. She died after falling from the 15th floor of the building where she lived with her boyfriend Miguel Alves da Silva. a 31-year-old businessman known to have multiple wives and to be abusive to his girlfriends, according to her brother. Police concluded she committed suicide, as the evidence collected did not indicate any third party intervention.
Mutsumi Fujisaki, better known as Miyu Uehara, was a Japanese gravure idol (glamour model) and TV personality, who gained popularity as a "poverty idol" because of her poor background. Uehara died at her apartment in Meguro, Tokyo early on 12 May 2011 at the age of 24, after apparently committing suicide by hanging.
Lucy Gordon (22 May 1980 – 20 May 2009) was a British actress and model. On 20 May 2009, Gordon was found hanging in the Paris flat she shared with cinematographer Jerome Almeras. A French police official said Gordon appeared to have committed suicide by hanging. Gordon wrote her will on 19 May 2009. She split her estate between Alméras, her friends, her parents and her sister.
Woo Seung-yeon (24 May 1983 – 27 April 2009) was a South Korean
model and actress. Woo was found hanged at her home in Jamsil-dong, Seoul, in an apparent
suicide. Prior to her death, Woo sent a text message to her sister saying "I'm
sorry", and left a note in her diary that read, "I love my family. I am so sorry
to leave early." Police believe that depression over her situation and fear of the
future led to her suicide.
Julieta Gomez, the young model who had been part of Dreaming for Dancing
2 and had attempted suicide in November, died today at age 25 after spending three months
in a coma.
Daul Kim. The South Korean model Daul Kim was found hanged in her Paris
apartment on November 19, 2009 at the age of 20. The circumstances and her apparent
depression caused authorities to rule her death as a probable suicide.
Ruslana Korshunova. With her angelic face and Rapunzel-like hair, Ruslana
Korshunova was well on her way to supermodel-dom when she mysteriously fell off her
Manhattan apartment balcony on June 28, 2008 at the age of 20. No suicide note was found.
Claudia Boerner, 32, a model who appeared on a TV cooking show killed
herself after being taunted by internet trolls. It is understood she suffered a barrage of
abuse on email and social media following her appearance on the show.
Yu-ri Kim, died at age 22, was most promising South Korean fashion model,
who was active from late 2000s to early 2010s.Prior to her death she had posted multiple
articles about her struggles with being able to be "super skinny" on her blog,
which were noted after her death. She allegedly committed suicide by using poison.
Natasha Duncan, 21, a plus-size model who had appeared in Seventeen, Mode
and other magazines, apparently committed suicide by stabbing herself several times in the
neck, police said. Duncan's roommate, fellow model Johanna Edelberg, told police they were
smoking marijuana.
Gabrielle Joseph, 16, told friends on Facebook: ‘I am going to kill
myself tonight’ because she was so upset at being turned down for the date, due on
the following night. The young model died little more than an hour later.
Lina Marulanda (15 May 1980 – 22 April 2010) was a Colombian
television personality and model. On 22 April 2010, Marulanda died upon falling from the
balcony of her sixth-floor apartment. It is considered a suicide. She was in the midst of
a divorce with Carlos Oñate, her second husband, to whom she had been married for three
months.
Viveka Babajee (May 23, 1973 – June 25, 2010) was a Mauritian model
and actress. She held the titles of Miss Mauritius World 1993 and Miss Mauritius Universe
1994. Babajee was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her apartment on 25 June 2010 at
her Bandra residence in Mumbai. Police reports stated that she committed suicide due to
depression.
Tiffany Simelane (1988 – August 17, 2009) was a beauty queen who
represented Swaziland in Miss World 2008 in South Africa. She died on August 17, 2009,
after an apparent suicide. Friends report that she killed herself over a "broken
heart", facing depression and a lack of closeness with her family on top of the
stress of being Miss Swaziland.
Heather Stohler (29 November 1979 – 11 May 2008) was an American
model. Stohler died on 11 May 2008 during a fire in her apartment. It is believed to be an
accident.
Hayley Marie Kohle (May 6, 1982 – October 11, 2008) was a Canadian
fashion model. She died after falling from the seventh-floor balcony of an apartment at
Milan, and Italian police ruled it a suicide by jumping.
Erin Jean Maria Spanevello (April 27, 1987 – May 28, 2008) was a
Canadian fashion model active in the late 2000s before dying from a drug overdose at the
age of 21.
Anna Nicole Smith, former supermodel,
died at age 39, as a result of an apparent prescription drug overdose, on February 8,
2007.
Kuljeet Randhawa (1 January 1976 – 8 February 2006) was an Indian
actress and model. The former Gladrags model was best known for her role in the Kohinoor
series. In a suicide note, Kuljeet stated that she was ending her life as she was unable
to cope with life's pressures.
Katy Ellen French (31 October 1983 – 6 December 2007) was an Irish
socialite, model, writer, television personality and charity worker. A post mortem
examination determined that she had suffered brain damage, and that traces of cocaine were
found in her body.
Nafisa Joseph was an Indian model and MTV video jockey. She was the
winner of Miss India Universe 1997 and was a semi-finalist in the Miss Universe 1997
pageant in Miami. Nafisa Joseph hanged herself 29 July 2004 at the age 26 in her flat in Versova
on 29 July 2004.
